Sarah Flynn Brazil

Hello my name is Sarah Flynn and I will be going to Brazil in the fall of 2018 for a foreign exchange program through AFS. I will be staying in Brazil for a semester and I can’t wait to go on this adventure of a lifetime! I decided I wanted to do foreign exchange after I heard from a counselor at Salinas High School that traveling abroad was a great experience and that it could make a college application more unique and show independence to colleges and future jobs. I have only heard of awesome experiences from studying abroad, and everybody I have talked to has said only positive things about their own experiences.
I am very excited to learn a new language (portuguese), live with my new Brazilian family, learn about new cultures, form relationships with people from all over the world, gain more confidence and independence, and create amazing memories that I will always be able to share with others. While I am abroad I will be taking pictures and videos of my experience as well as journaling my experiences the best that I can. I hope to share them when I come back from my exchange.
Studying abroad is an amazing, once in a lifetime, opportunity that I knew I couldn’t miss out on! However, as you can imagine, it is an expensive experience. I applied for many scholarships, but unfortunately didn’t qualify for a lot of the need-based scholarships. I have received  a scholarship from the Elita-Hawley foundation that I am very grateful for. However, it does not cover the whole cost of the trip. Sponsor an AFSer is an online fundraising tool provided by AFS-USA to allow potential contributors to make easy, secure, and non tax-deductible contributions to my AFS program fee. Any donation would be tremendously appreciated, and will go directly to the cost of my exchange. Of course I will be grateful for any help, and anything is appreciated! Thank you so much for your support! To sponsor my AFS program, please click the Donate Now button to make a non tax-deductible contribution directly to my AFS program account.
